12/06/2007: I'm sorry for the ongoing problems with Tunnelblick under Leopard. I will find time to fix this soon. Additionally, someone apparently launched a denial of service attack against the subversion repository and the database got corrupted while defending it. I will have to restore that as well.

10/29/2007: Tunnelblick-Universal-3.0b6.dmg (Detached Signature) released. Correctional update for version b5. Changes in detail:

• fixes hanging on Quit in Leopard
• updated to new tun/tap driver that will build correctly on leopard (the old one worked fine when built under tiger)
• fixes lzo problem for powerpc users
• updated third_party build system to correctly build universal binaries and to use 10.4u SDK when run under Leopard

10/26/2007: New Version Tunnelblick-Universal-3.0b5.dmg (Detached Signature) released. It brings full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5 alias Leopard as well as a bunch of bugfixes. Changes in detail:

• fix for auto-connect amnesia issue
• fixed crash when user clicks on cancel in authorization window
• added feature: menu updates in realtime when new configs appear in Library/openvpn
• fixed bug in new animation code where the menu icon would not correctly represent the actual connection state when the animation was interrupted
• fix for spaces in passphrases
• single command build process using a Makefile that will build the Tunnelblick Xcode project as well as all dependencies like lzo, openpvn and tuntap.

03/31/2007: Released Tunnelblick_3.0_B4.zip. Changes:

• I rewrote the up/down scripts myself this time
• Menu Bar Animation is now smooth (thanks to Alex Brown for submitting a patch)

08/03/2006: Released Tunnelblick 3.0rc3. The Up/Down scripts to set the nameserver are now optional. You can enable them for each individual connection in the Details Panel. I hope that will solve the problems for most people now.

07/31/2006: In the current preview of version 3.0 there are issues with the delivered up/down scripts when used in conjuction of the tun driver (instead of tap). Unfortunately, I was very busy the last few months and didn't have time to work on Tunnelblick. Expect a new release soon!!! Use the version 2.0.1 which I didn't take time to release as a universal binary yet. If you have an Intel Mac please wait or donate ;-)

Tunnelblick is released under a BSD style license. You can check out the latest source code via subversion here:

For details on the build process, see README. Disk Images with a complete ready to use distribution are available as well. It includes the openvpn binaries from the openvpn project, the tun/tap driver/kernel extension for Mac OS X, and the GUI application.

• Recommended version: Tunnelblick-Universal-3.0b6.dmg (Detached Signature) (my public key) Universal Binary. Requires Mac OS 10.4 or above. Leopard compatible.
• Older version (only for Tiger, not Leopard): Tunnelblick_3.0_B4.zip. Universal Binary.
• If you still haven't upgraded to Tiger:Tunnelblick-Panther-2.0.1 for Mac OS X 10.3.9
• For historical reasons: Tunnelblick-Tiger-2.0.1 for Mac OS X 10.4.x, PowerPC only

To install Tunnelblick, download Tunnelblick-Universal-3.0b6.dmg, mount the dmg file and move Tunnelblick.app to your Applications folder. For security reasons, on first startup, as well as when changes to the configuration files have been made, it will ask you for your login password. Tunnelblick will look for OpenVPN configuration files in Library/openvpn in your home folder, so copy your files there. Should this folder not exist, Tunnelblick will create it for you and populate it with an example config file which can be edited to your liking.
To uninstall Tunnelblick, simply move it to the trash.
